TL;DR

Log into the Silicon Valley Code Camp site, go to your profile by clicking on your name (top right), add your Bluesky handle, and you’ll automatically be on either the Speakers or Attendees list (depending on whether you’ve presented before).

What is Bluesky?

If you haven’t heard of Bluesky yet, it’s one of the newest social platforms built on decentralized principles, where users can connect, follow each other, and build communities without the worry of vendor lock-in or algorithmic confusion. It’s popular in the tech world—especially among early adopters who want more control over their online identity and social presence.

The best part is that being on a public Bluesky list can significantly increase your exposure. Imagine having an official “Attendees of Silicon Valley Code Camp” or “Speakers at Silicon Valley Code Camp” list you can point your followers to. This effectively boosts your digital footprint and positions you as an influential figure in our community. If you’re looking to build connections, share your expertise, or even raise your professional profile, Bluesky is a great tool to have in your arsenal.

Don’t Have a Bluesky Account Yet?

If you don’t have a Bluesky account yet, now is the time to sign up! Simply visit bsky.app and create an account. Once you’re in, follow relevant lists and start engaging with the community to expand your professional network. Your Bluesky handle (e.g., yourname.bsky.social) is all you need to link your identity on the Silicon Valley Code Camp site.

If you’re on the fence about joining yet another social platform, let me just say: Bluesky isn’t just another social platform. It focuses on:

If you want to be part of the next big shift in social media and keep your eye on the future of decentralized technology, Bluesky might just be your next step.

Getting Started (Step-by-Step)

Here’s the best part: it’s super easy to get onto one of these lists.

  1. Log into the Silicon Valley Code Camp Site

    • Head over to siliconvalley-codecamp.com and click on the Login button.
    • If you don’t remember your credentials, just hit the Forgot Password link. You’ll be sent to a page that allows you to reset everything quickly. If you are a past speaker and have changed your email, simply contact Peter Kellner and ask for your email to be updated with at least your first name, last name and old email address if you still have it, or even a link to your session on the site. If you are a past attendee, you can do the same. Or, if it’s easier, just signup for a new account on the home page and then go through the login / forgot password steps to get a new password.
  2. Access Your Profile

    • Once you’re logged in, the login button should be replaced by your name at the top right of the page. Click on your name to go to your profile page.
  3. Add Your Bluesky Handle

    • On your profile page, look for the field labeled Bluesky Handle. Enter your handle (it will look something like yourname.bsky.social or another domain if you have a custom invite).
    • Click Update to save your changes.
  4. Wait 30 Minutes

    • Sometimes, the system takes about 30 minutes to refresh (sometimes, right away). After that, your handle will appear on the correct list:
      • Speakers List if you’ve ever presented at Silicon Valley Code Camp
      • Attendees List if you’ve joined us but haven’t spoken

And that’s it! With this quick process, you’ll be part of a curated Bluesky list that the entire Silicon Valley Code Camp community can follow.
