Silicon Valley Code Camp V6, 2011, is Just 4 Days Away!

As the primary organizer for Silicon Valley Code Camp, I’m very excited to say things are really going well for this year. Our attendance looks to be setting yet another record (we are just now passing the 2800 or so we had registered at the start of Code Camp last year and I expect at least 100 people a day to be signing up in the next few days). We have not yet decided to cut off attendance. We are taking that one day at a time (but watching the sign ups and plan to attends very closely). I hate to even consider that but if we have to in order to keep the experience for the attendees great, we will.

We also just added (yesterday) the ability to capture tweets with #svcc in them and filter them on your main code camp page (once you log in) by all code camp speakers, just speakers you plan to attend, as well as those sessions you said you are interested in. Speakers simply put there twitter handle on their registration page, tweet with #svcc and the rest is magic! Check it out when you login (you can’t miss it).

If you have not registered, now is the time! and don’t forget to indicated what sessions you want to attend. We’ve got a great page for that now. Below is a screen shot that you see once you are logged in.

Nice job from both twitter and facebook on how to make badges for your web sites. Seems like there could be many other places this technology could be used.

Seeing All @Replies From Twitter

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with Twitter for the past many months. I really like the idea, I’ve got a pretty good community I interact with, and for the most part it works. The hate part is that it is down way to often. I often see posts where people say "Why to we stick with this sucky service?". OK, maybe they don’t always use the sucky word. At any rate, since this is my first Twitter post, I figure I should say that right away.

So, the purpose of this post is to let people know of kind of hidden setting in Twitter called "@Replies: Show me …". Scott Hanselman twittered about this a while back and I’ve finally gotten around to looking it up. Basically, this is so that if someone does a @Reply to you, that you see the reply whether or not you are following them. Since Scott posted it, I’m going to make a twitter post thanking him for his suggestion and see if he gets it. Last I checked, he wasn’t following my Twitter feed so this will be a good test.

Well, that’s about it. Below is a screen shot of the settings Dialog you need to set. Just remember, if you don’t set this, and people mention your name in a tweet, you may not see it unless you are subscribed to it. Then, on the upside, you may not want to see it.
