Managing Your Mailbox Size In Office365 Exchange Email (using archive)

image.png

Background I’ve been using Microsoft exchange for many many years hosted through different exchange hosted providers.  For the last year or so I’ve been using Microsoft’s Office365 solution.  At this point, I’ve got over 10Gig of email which means that every time I set up outlook on a new computer it’s a long wait until all the email gets downloaded (ost file bloat). The Solution / Enable Archive! Turns out, that built into Office365 (I assume exchange also) there is a simple solution.  You simply log into your office365 admin portal and turn on archiving. In my case, I log in to https://outlook.office365.com/owa/ choose “Exchange” then, on the right sidebar choose enable archiving. This will automatically create a … Continue Reading

Windows Phone 8, Supports Office365 Exchange Server? You Decide

image.png

(**Just heard back from my Microsoft Service Call Below that WP8 is supported with Office365) As a very happy office365 user (that is where I host my primary email), I was very disappointed when I could not save appointments I schedule on my calendar.  Knowing that I pay for enterprise level support, I posted a service request to the Microsoft Office365 web site describing my problem.  The answer I got back, after much discussion was that very clearly that Office365 does not support windows phone 8.  I’ve included that letter below if anyone questions my interpretation of what Microsoft support told me (Patrick’s spoken english was much better than his written english). Hello Mr. Kellner, My name is Patrick with Microsoft Online … Continue Reading

Having just switched to a new Windows Phone 8 Device (the HTC8x) I immediately got stopped in my tracks adding my Office365.com exchange based email to the phone.  The error I got is this: We can't add this account to your phone because you've already set it up on the maximum number of devices. You can try removing devices from your account on the web, or contact support for your account". Last tried 42 seconds ago. error code 86000c4c What does “contact support” mean?  Does it mean contact Verizon? contact HTC? contact Microsoft? If Microsoft, then does it mean Contact Windows Phone 8 Group, XBox Group? and on and on. A very unsatisfying error. After calling all those different places, I finally looked deeper … Continue Reading

How To Setup Exchange with the Samsung Epic 4G / Android 2.2

Normally, setting up Microsoft Exchange Server with a mobile phone is pretty straight forward.  I just got the Samsung Epic 4G today (see my earlier post here:  ( http://peterkellner.net/2010/08/31/sprint-samsung-epic-4g-first-impression/ ) and setting up Exchange was a little confusing.  I use GoDaddy’s Exchange Servers (hence the mail.ex1.secureserver.net), but the field Domain\Username through me for a loop.  After some experiment, I just tried putting my email in there and, to my surprise, it worked.  I don’t get why there is a leading backslash or the title Domain\Username but since my email is now working, I thought I’d share.   … Continue Reading
