I just volunteered to present at the next Bay.Net Meeting (San Francisco, at the Microsoft office) RIA Services in Silverlight 4 (Visual Studio 2010). The original speaker couldn’t make it so this is a last minute thing. I’m busy preparing an example of using the Silicon Valley Code Camp Session Listings as an example. The example will hopefully including authentication (logging in and out), special admin access to certain functions, validation as well as other cool tricks.
RIA Services is an inspirational technology. Let me show you why I think so!

This ought to be a good presentation. I attended your presentation at the ASP.NET MVC Tampa Developer Group. Learned how to make MVC sites for different devices and more. Thanks for the great volunteer work!

I’m looking forward to the presentation, and I’d like to request that you include coverage of the factors a company should take into consideration in trying to CHOOSE between MVC2, RIA Services, and Data Services, if possible. Does a choice of Data Services over RIA Services boil down to nothing more than a preference for a RESTfull API, for example, or are there clear advantages and disadvantages to each technology that we can list, that will help organizations avoid problems with scalability etc.? Thanks.

This was one of the better technical presentations I’ve seen. Peter makes practical knowledge of Silverlight and RIA Services accessible without grandstanding. It is refreshing to listen to someone who is both competent and humble.
Peter’s presentation has convinced me that my ASP.NET/AJAX expertise will decrease in value sooner than I had hoped. I have no choice but to become a Silverlight/RIA expert.

It was a good presentation, esp considering that RIA Services and Silverlight are a new area for you, and that you had just a week or so to prepare. I hope that you do find time to upload your camtasia videos and written summarizations soon; there were some details in there that flew by kind of quick .

Good presentation. As a follow-up to our discussion on WCF Data Services (formerly “Astoria”) versus RIA Services, I found relevant details on the MSDN “Endpoints” site, which explains some of the relevant issues, including the statement “(OData) is a protocol that defines how a client can query, navigate, and make changes to data in an open, RESTful manner. Data Services fully implements this protocol today, and RIA Services will (soon) expose an endpoint that supports this protocol”.
After Mix last year, Brad Abrams and others had stated that they planned to change the RIA underpinings to take advantage of Data Services rather than support a separate model, and my interpretation of the info. on the “Endpoints” site is that the underpining of both technologies have been updated rather than stacking one over the other as originally suggested.

Thanks for an awesome presentation on “Using RIA Services in Silverlight 4 (VS2010) to build n-tier LOB application”. Peter has given some invaluable tips on VS2010 which seemed so easy when you know it , otherwise it will be frustrating .
Now I am convinced that the future of web development is with Silverlight 4 and RIA services.

I’m sold.
Peter presented a good balance of demo and code behind and sprinkled in pointers to LOB relevant apps.
Now time to watch the 7 videos.
